Apprema Offers Thank You Gift Cards via StarGift

Apprema recently demonstrated their new StarMail, StarGift and StarPay solution at the 2007 DEMOfall event. In their press release, the Sunnyvale, CA based company claims to have introduced the first collaborative e-mail and relationship management platform for existing email, sales force automation (SFA), customer relationship management (CRM) and Web 2.0. Talk about stuffing as many industry buzzwords as you can into your product description. What it all boils down to is that you can can compose emails collaboratively (via StarMail) and email it out with a gift card (via StarGift).

After reviewing Apprema’s video product demonstration on DEMO, I have to say that the solution is nothing groundbreaking. Most businesses will continue to send emails via Outlook or with the plethora of web based email services or solutions that already exist out there. As is, Apprema will have a huge mountain to climb to get users to adopt their StarMail solution, especially for such a niche purpose.

However, the StarGift component is more promising. The ability to effortlessly pay for and add a gift to an email is very compelling. Senders can select from a list of presents such as gift cards to gift basekts. In turn, the receipent of the gift card can have the gift card shipped to them, exchange it for another gift card, bank the card, or donate it to charity. If Apprema can integrate their StarGift solution with existing social network sites, such as MySpace, LinkedIn, and Friendster, and web based email solutions, such as Hotmail, Yahoo! Mail, GMail, and even Salesforce.com, there could be signficant revenue potential for this company. Hopefully, Apprema will look at branching into the consumer space and also offer an integrated versus stand alone solution. We’ll keep an eye out for this company.
