Please, note that on April 3, 2007, Darden settled charges with the FTC for deceptive gift card sales. Darden did not adequately disclosed that the gift cards contained a “dormancy fee” while advertising that consumers can redeem for the full monetary value of the gift card. As a settlement, Darden must restore all fees deducted from gift cards. What this means is that you can find yourself with extra couple of bucks depending on how long you have had the gift card. Darden’s dormancy fee was $1.50 per month after 15 months of non-use for gift cards purchased before February 2004. If the gift cards were purchased after February 2004, then the $1.50 deduction did not begin until after 24 months of non-use.
