Restaurants Unlimited Launches Promotional Gift Cards

Kincaid’s Promotional $20 Gift Card

Restaurants Unlimited (RUI) in partnership with American Express has launched a fall promotion offering a free $20 gift card good at participating Kincaid’s Fish, Chop & Steak House locations. The terms printed on the back of the promotional gift cards state:

“Payment must be made with any American Express Card. This promotional card is valid only at participating locations, and is redeemable for food and non-alcoholic beverages, excluding tax and gratuity. Offer does not include alcohol. One promotional card per table. Valid for Dinner only. No cash or credit will be given for any balance remaining. The card must be sued by date shown on the face of the card. Not valid with any other offer or to be used towards our First Seating menu. Protect this card as you would cash. We are not responsible for lost or stolen cards.”

A quick review of the nearest Kincaid’s location on Yelp.com shows that per average tab including one drink, tip and tax to be around $60. However, the reviews were less then spectacular, which could explain why RUI is trying to get more traffic through their restaurant. Currently, there are eight Kincaid’s location throughout the United State.

These promotional gift cards were mailed out during the first week of October to American Express card members who live near Kincaid locations. If you did not get one in the mail, you can swipe one off of eBay for real cheap. It also looks like RUI is offering the same $20 gift card promotion for Palomino, their other flagship restaurant.

Some additional notes about this story is that in March of 2007, Sun Capital Partners bought RUI for an undisclosed sum. Shortly afterwards in July of 2007 and with private equity backing, RUI purchased Pacific Coast Restaurants (PCR) to increase their restaurants from 29 to 56 locations. Surprisingly enough, Sun Capital Partners has amassed a large portfolio of hospitality businesses, such as Chevy’s, Boston Market, Bruegger’s, Garden Fresh, and Real Mex to name a few. We’ll keep an eye out on whether Sun Capital starts cross promoting the various restaurants through a inter-restaurant gift card brand. Lastly, the promotional gift card is powered by Givex.
