Coverage Initiated on JetBlue Gift Cards
JetBlue Airways is a low cost airline servicing major US cities and destinations in the Caribbean and Mexico. They offer gift cards in any amount from $10 up to $1000 in either plastic or digital format. In addition, gift cards are available in denominations of $50, $100 and $200 from retail locations, such as grocery stores, throughout the country.
Initial data on JetBlue gift card transactions on eBay indicates that 42 gift cards were sold over the past 150 days with a median resale value of 88% and an average resale value of 84%. The most common denomination of JetBlue gift cards sold was $25.
The 4% difference between median and average resale price coupled with a standard deviation of 9% indicate that more data points are required before a more accurate picture of JetBlue gift card’s worth on the secondary market is available. In comparison, Southwest Airlines gift cards have a 92% median and average resale value over the past 150 days with a volume of 79 transactions on eBay.
Please, consult with the JetBlue gift card’s terms and conditions for the complete and latest details. However, the main points to be aware of are:
- There are no expiration date.
- Purchases are not refundable.
- Not redeemable for cash or credit.
- Valid only for flight purchases and related fees, such as excess baggage, pet handling, etc.
- Gift cards are transferable until deactivated, however, may not be sold, bartered, or otherwise exchanged for money or other consideration.

I bought a $200 Jetblue gift card for $151 on eBay in February. Now, a couple months later, the gift card has no balance. I assume the seller redeemed the card himself after selling it to me. I’m not eligible for PayPal protection because the gift card is intangible good. I feel, least to say, pretty dumb, disappointed in humanity, and don’t recommend purchasing a JetBlue gift card second-hand. The card doesn’t have any kind of password or PIN that you can change, JetBlue doesn’t recognize second-hand owners with no original proof of purchase, and again, this kind of purchase isn’t protected by PayPal.

Sorry to hear about your experience with buying second-hand Jetblue gift card. This type of scam is commonly referred to as the “back door”, Top Five Gift Card Scams on eBay (Refer to #4). Unfortunately, Jetblue gift cards do not have a PIN or password, which would have helped in preventing this type of scam. When you receive the second-hand gift card, check the balance immediately and spend it soon. If problems do occur, you have a better chance of settling this with the buyer. In addition, when buying from eBay, use a credit card and not PayPal funds to purchase the second-hand gift card. Credit card companies offer better protection than PayPal.
